1935 Shooting
Incident at
Vaiden On Saturday, July 13, 1935, Constable H.R. “Charger” Michie, in self-defense, shot and killed Alfred W. Shelton, former Vaiden resident, for resisting arrest due to a disturbance on the front street of Vaiden, MS. Michie later served many years as Deputy Sheriff, and also was famous for his Tennessee Walking Horses. Mr. Shelton is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, Mississippi. However, according to existing records, the name on his marker is misspelled. Click on the links below
